Before you decide
- US models are eSIM-only and have no physical SIM tray. Make sure your UK network supports eSIM. EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and most MVNOs do.
- Warranty and repairs: AppleCare and some repair services can be limited to the country where you bought the phone. A UK purchase also gets UK Consumer Rights Act protection.
- Tourist tax refunds: Louisiana and Texas have tax-free shopping schemes for international visitors, but only at retailers that take part. Apple Stores usually don’t.
- Card fees matter: a 2.99% foreign-transaction fee adds roughly £30. Pay in USD, not GBP. If the terminal offers to charge you in pounds (“dynamic currency conversion”), the rate is usually worse.
- All figures are estimates. They aren’t tax or financial advice.
